Knowing how to delete a pet camera recording without losing unrelated footage starts with identifying the exact storage collection where that clip lives. Whether you are looking up how to delete one pet camera recording from a local microSD card, a cloud Event list, or a saved Favorites folder, each collection uses its own removal control—and none of them requires a factory reset or whole-card format.
Operate only within an account you are authorized to manage. The manufacturer workflows below govern specific clip collections rather than providing a single universal erase button that wipes every copy across cloud servers, memory cards, and phones.
Match the storage collection before choosing a delete command
First confirm which camera, date, timestamp, and storage tab you are looking at. If you want to keep a personal backup before removing a clip from the app, verify that you have a playable file in your phone's local gallery using our camera-video saving guide. Then use the routing table below to pick the workflow that matches your target collection:
| Storage Collection | Documented Action & App Route | Device & Time Conditions | What This Action Does Not Prove or Erase |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tapo SD Card or Tapo H500 Hub Recordings | Live View > Playback & Download: tap a single clip's three-dot menu and Delete, or open the top-right three-dot selection mode to delete multiple clips. | Supported on listed Tapo cameras and H500 Hub only when exact hardware and firmware match (e.g., C120 HW V1.20/V1.26 with FW 1.9.4 Build 260813). | Free-space numbers may not rise immediately due to card fragmentation (reclaimed later by loop recording); does not remove copies already saved to a phone. |
| Wyze Cloud Events Tab | Events tab > pencil icon > select target video(s) > Delete. | Applies to cloud Event clips in the Events list; keep distinct from Clear All in the filter bar (which only resets active search filters). | Does not delete continuous microSD card playback footage, phone album downloads, or other viewers' saved copies. |
| Furbo Saved Favorites | In Favorites, tap the heart icon on the saved video again and confirm Remove. | Unfavorites the clip; per Furbo's US-English guide, removing a Favorite video that is more than 24 hours old deletes that video immediately. | Not a general delete button for non-Favorite cloud clips under 24 hours old, and does not erase videos already downloaded to a phone. |
| Phone Album / Local Downloaded Files | Delete directly inside your phone's Photos or Files app after confirming which local copy you are viewing. | Governed by your phone's operating system and trash/recently-deleted folder rules. | Deleting a file from your phone album leaves the original cloud Event, Favorite, or microSD recording untouched in the camera app. |
Tapo: confirm selective deletion is supported on your hardware and firmware
TP-Link's download-and-delete FAQ explains how to remove individual SD-card or Hub recordings from Playback & Download inside the camera's Live View. For a single clip, open its three-dot menu and tap Delete. For several clips, tap the top-right three-dot menu to enter selection mode, mark the target recordings, and confirm deletion.
Selective deletion is restricted to specific Tapo models and the Tapo H500 Hub at stated hardware and firmware thresholds—for instance, the Tapo C120 entry specifies V1.20/V1.26 hardware and firmware 1.9.4 Build 260813, so the model name alone is not enough.
TP-Link also notes that displayed free capacity may not change right after deleting a clip because fragmented space is reclaimed later during loop recording. Do not format the card or toggle loop settings simply because the storage bar stays unchanged.
Wyze: distinguish deleting selected Events from clearing search filters
Wyze's Events-tab guide directs you to tap the pencil icon on the Events screen, check the specific clip or clips you want to remove, and tap Delete. Review every checked thumbnail before confirming.
In the same article, the phrase Clear All refers to clearing active Event view filters—not erasing all recordings. Wyze also separates cloud Events from local microSD playback, so deleting an Event entry does not wipe footage stored on a camera card or phone gallery.
Furbo: keep the 24-hour condition attached to Favorite removal
The US-English Furbo Favorites support article explains that tapping the heart icon on a saved Favorite and confirming Remove takes the clip out of Favorites—and explicitly warns that if the video is more than 24 hours old, removing it from Favorites deletes it immediately.
Keep that 24-hour immediate-deletion consequence tied to the Favorite-removal step: it is not a universal deletion menu for every new Furbo cloud clip, nor does it delete copies already saved to your phone.
Record the result at the same scope as the action
After completing the steps for your collection, refresh that same list and verify that the selected clip entry is gone. Keep a brief private log noting the camera name, storage collection, clip timestamp, command used, and any remaining status message—without recording account passwords.
Never escalate from a single stubborn clip to formatting the entire microSD card, resetting the camera, or canceling a cloud plan. A removed list entry confirms only that the clip no longer appears in that collection; it does not certify forensic erasure of remote server backups or other users' downloaded files.
Our microSD recording guide covers card formatting as a separate setup procedure, and you can browse the pet camera category to compare camera storage features.
