Plan carrier, journey and arrival before loading a pet corn snake.

Prepare containment

The RSPCA corn snake guide uses ventilated plastic containers with soft, absorbent paper for small snakes such as hatchlings. For adults, it describes a tightly secured cloth bag inside a well-ventilated plastic tub.

RSPCA Australia requires secure, crush-resistant containment. Never transport a snake loose on your body or in a vehicle.

Check closures before loading. A bag and an outer tub perform different roles; neither is permission to seal ventilation.

Plan the journey

The RSPCA advises avoiding temperature extremes and keeping transit brief. Heat packs are conditional, not automatic: overheating must be avoided.

Resolve temperature protection before departure. See the handling guide for transfer.

At arrival

For first arrival home, the RSPCA places the carrier inside the prepared vivarium. Open carefully for the snake to emerge, then close the vivarium securely.

At other destinations, agree the handover before opening the carrier.

Keep the snake and equipment away from food areas. The CDC advises washing hands with soap and running water after handling either.
