To work out how to wash reusable puppy pads, match the exact pad to its care label before choosing a wash cycle or drying method. A machine-washable description is the starting point; you still need the permitted preparation, temperature, laundry products and drying instructions for that specific set of reusable puppy pads.
Make a short care record you can keep beside the washing machine. The three manufacturers below illustrate why settings must stay attached to their own products. Plan a spare pad for the time another is being washed and dried, without assuming every household needs the same pack count or washing interval.
Identify the pad and collect its complete instructions
Find the product name, variant and attached care label. Confirm that it is the reusable product you intend to launder. Keep the current label and matching manufacturer's instructions together; a diaper, blanket or disposable training pad can appear on the same website without sharing the same care permissions.
Record preparation, machine cycle, temperature, laundry-product restrictions and drying method. If the label and website conflict, confirm which instructions apply to your exact pad before selecting settings.
| Named pad | Written washing information | Drying information and unresolved detail |
|---|---|---|
| Pet Parents Pawtect Pads | Explicitly permitted: Permanent Press with warm water; its block specifies PetTergent and excludes bleach and fabric softener. | Pending confirmation: the wording reads “Dry or medium heat.” Confirm the intended instruction for your exact variant rather than correcting it yourself. |
| The Proper Pet washable pads | Explicitly permitted: cold pre-rinsing followed by a warm machine wash below 40°C. | Explicitly permitted: low tumble drying or hanging is described for its pads. |
| Conni Pet Pad, listed SV4 models | Maximum ceiling: do not wash above 80°C/176°F (adjacent label lines print both “DO NOT BLEACH” and “USE OXYGEN BLEACH ONLY” — keep that bleach conflict marked for confirmation). | Maximum ceiling: do not tumble dry above 80°C/176°F. Both 80°C figures are upper limits, rather than a recommended routine setting. |
Prepare and wash using the matched instructions
The Proper Pet's care guide describes removing solids outside and cold pre-rinsing before its below-40°C wash. It also excludes fabric softener and dryer sheets. These are that maker's directions, rather than a preparation routine to add automatically to every other pad.
Transfer the applicable steps to your care record in the order the maker supplies. Choose only the cycle and laundry products covered by that record.
On Pet Parents' washing page, use the Pawtect Pads block. Nearby diaper and belly-band instructions include different preparation and drying wording. Do not transfer those steps to a pad. The separate general stain-treatment suggestions also do not resolve the pad block's unclear dryer sentence.
Keep this process focused on following the identified product's instructions. Do not combine laundry additives or turn an internet odor-removal recipe into a substitute care permission.
Resolve restrictions before choosing a dryer setting
The Conni Pet Pad instruction sheet also excludes ironing, dry cleaning, fabric softener and dryer sheets. The 80°C limits do not tell you to select an 80°C wash or dryer cycle.
Once you have a clear permitted drying method for your own pad, follow it through. Do not borrow a low-heat or hanging instruction simply because another brand permits it.
Check the pad itself before returning it to use. If it remains damp, keep it out of the ready-pad rotation and continue only the permitted drying method. A clock estimate does not establish that this particular pad has finished drying.
Inspect, record and return the ready pad
Look over the surface, edges, seams and backing while arranging the pad for reuse. Hold any pad with split seams or altered backing out of rotation rather than assuming another wash restores the barrier. Keep the product's own orientation and placement directions with its care record.
| Care Record Field | What to Log for Your Exact Pad | Verification & Readiness Status |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Product & exact variant | Exact brand, model name, size/variant, and attached care-label version (e.g., Pawtect Pad vs. Conni SV4). | Confirmed that instructions belong to this pad rather than a diaper, blanket, or disposable pad. |
| 2. Permitted wash settings | Pre-rinse rule, machine cycle, water temperature (distinguishing below-40°C guidance from Conni's 80°C ceiling), and excluded additives. | Any conflicting label wording (such as Conni's adjacent bleach lines) kept marked as unconfirmed until verified. |
| 3. Drying method & confirmation log | Confirmed drying method; for ambiguous wording (such as Pawtect's “Dry or medium heat”), record confirmation date, exact variant covered, reply summary, and source. | Marked Pending confirmation until a matching reply is recorded; verify the pad is physically dry through all layers before storage. |
| 4. Surface inspection & next action | Check quilting, edges, seams, and waterproof backing before reuse. | Return fully dry intact pad to use, continue permitted drying if damp, or set damaged pads aside. |
For choosing a footprint and spare-pad arrangement, use our reusable pee-pad comparison and browse washable pee pads, checking each actual listing. Teaching a puppy where to go is a separate task covered by our pee-pad training guide. A completed laundry routine is not a training result or a guarantee about absorbency, odor or floor protection.
