To learn how to set up pet camera automatic motion tracking—or how to enable pet camera automatic motion tracking for a specific room—first verify your exact camera model and hardware version, configure its supported tracking controls in the mobile app, and then watch what the camera actually follows in live view. Saving an auto-tracking toggle alone does not prove your pet stayed in frame or that a video clip was recorded.
Confirm hardware support before changing a setting
Reolink's Introduction to Auto Tracking compatibility table lists 26 camera entries and restricts support on certain models to specific hardware revisions—for instance, the Reolink E1 Pro row specifies hardware versions IPC_566SD54MP and IPC_NT1NA45MP. Check your exact hardware string on the device label or Device Info screen rather than relying on the outer model name alone.
Supported target categories and tracking mechanisms also vary by model: dual-lens cameras such as Reolink TrackMix can use digital zoom tracking alongside physical pan/tilt movement. Note that a horizontal tracking limit only stops pan-tracking travel at set left/right angles; it does not blackout or mask the image for privacy, and returning to a home angle requires a monitoring point to be saved first.
Check our camera firmware guide if your app or firmware needs updating to match the manufacturer's prerequisite version.
Follow the supported Reolink App route
The six numbered steps below follow Reolink's official Auto Tracking setup article using the Reolink App workflow (desktop Client, Web browser, and NVR menus use different layouts and are not mixed into this sequence):
- Enable Auto Tracking (all supported models): Open the selected camera's Device Settings > Auto Tracking and toggle tracking on.
- Select Tracking Type (categories depend on model): Open Tracking Type, select from the target classes your hardware supports, and save. (Person, Vehicle, and Animal are model-dependent options rather than universal checkboxes on every camera.)
- Set Tracking Priority and Tracking Method (supported models only): On models that expose these menus, drag to reorder Tracking Priority among target classes and select the Tracking Method (such as digital vs. PT tracking where supported).
- Configure Horizontal Tracking Limits (supported models only): Open the limit Settings, set the left and right pan stop positions so the lens does not track past a wall or corner, and save.
- Configure the Schedule (Reolink App grid): Open Schedule, where blue hourly blocks enable tracking and white blocks disable tracking, then save your chosen hours.
- Set Object Stops and Object Disappears timers: Adjust the two separate post-tracking wait timers—Object Stops (how long the camera stays aimed at the last spot when a tracked target stops moving while still in view) and Object Disappears (how long the camera waits at the last position after the tracked target leaves the frame before returning).
| Reolink App control | Model availability | What the setting controls |
|---|---|---|
| Auto Tracking toggle & Schedule | All auto-tracking supported Reolink App models. | Turns tracking on/off and sets active hours (blue blocks = enabled, white blocks = disabled in the Reolink App). |
| Tracking Type | Target classes vary by model/hardware version. | Selects which detected categories trigger tracking (Animal is only available on models supporting pet/animal detection). |
| Tracking Priority & Tracking Method | Supported models only. | Sets which target class takes precedence when multiple targets appear, and chooses physical vs. digital tracking on capable models (e.g., TrackMix). |
| Horizontal Tracking Limit | Supported models only. | Caps left and right pan travel during auto-tracking (does not act as a privacy blackout mask). |
| Object Stops vs. Object Disappears | Supported Reolink App tracking models with return point. | Object Stops: wait time when the subject halts in view. Object Disappears: wait time after the subject exits the frame before the lens returns to its monitoring point. |
Keep the Wyze Cam Pan v2 route separate
Wyze's April 2024 Motion Tracking on Wyze Cam Pan v2 guide applies specifically to the Wyze Cam Pan v2 rather than every Wyze Pan generation:
| Wyze Cam Pan v2 item | Documented behaviour in Wyze's April 2024 guide | Boundary not to generalize |
|---|---|---|
| App toggle & icon state | Open the camera live stream and tap More > Motion Tracking (green icon = enabled, black icon = disabled). | Applies to Wyze Cam Pan v2; do not assume identical menu colours across other Pan generations. |
| Target selection rule | When multiple objects move at once, Pan v2 tracks the largest moving object in the frame. | Does not lock specifically onto an identified pet if a person or larger moving object is in view. |
| 15-second return rule | After 15 seconds without motion, the camera returns to its starting position or resumes an already active Pan Scan. | Resuming Pan Scan depends on Pan Scan already being active prior to the motion event. |
| Independence from other motion features | Motion Tracking is separate from Motion Detection (event recording/alerts) and Motion Tagging (green boxes). | Enabling Motion Tracking alone does not turn on cloud/SD event recording or green motion-tagging outlines. |
Check the live response and keep tasks separate
After saving your settings, note your camera model, hardware version, selected target class, schedule, and return behavior, then observe whether the lens actually follows movement and returns as expected.
Keep related camera tasks separate: saving and recalling fixed viewing angles belongs to our pan-and-tilt preset task, while verifying whether motion events are written to a memory card belongs to our microSD recording task. When browsing pet cameras, always check the exact model and hardware revision table before assuming a pan-tilt housing supports pet-specific auto tracking.
