To use the tractive light or sound feature—and understand how to use Tractive tracker light and sound controls without misreading status LEDs or timer limits—always match the command path to your exact tracker model and connection state. Before pressing any button, separate three distinct functions:
- Remote Light (find-my-pet LED): An on-demand visibility light triggered from the app (or via a quick double-press on specific supported Tractive models) to help spot the tracker at close range.
- Remote Sound (find-my-pet buzzer): An audible tone triggered from the app at a fixed, non-adjustable volume to help locate the tracker nearby.
- Charging and status indicator LED: The built-in indicator light that shows battery charging or cellular/GPS status—covered separately in our tracker charging and indication guide.
This guide compiles Tractive's documented app and hardware controls alongside Weenect model comparisons so every time figure stays tied to its exact feature, unit (seconds vs. minutes), and source status.
Compare light and sound controls, stop routes, and timer evidence
| Brand & feature | Documented model scope & prerequisites | Start & manual stop routes | Automatic duration & source evidence status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tractive: Remote Sound (Tractive Light & Sound guide) | Tractive trackers with Sound in the mobile app (sound volume is fixed and cannot be adjusted). | Start: Map > swipe up bottom bar > Sound. Manual stop: Tap Sound again in the app, or press the tracker's physical power button. | Confirmed in source: Automatically stops after 5 minutes (applies to Tractive Sound only). |
| Tractive: Remote Light — App control (combined guide vs. dedicated light article) | Tracker must be online; app light control is unavailable inside a Power Saving Zone. | Start: Map > swipe up bottom bar > Light. Manual stop: Tap Light again in the app, or press the tracker's power button. | Conflicting official sources (unresolved): The combined Light & Sound guide states 15 minutes, whereas the dedicated Light article states a couple / few minutes. Do not rely on one universal auto-off countdown. |
| Tractive: Physical button light control (dedicated light article) | Strictly limited to DOG 6, DOG 6 XL, DOG 6 XL Adventure, and CAT 6 Mini (do not apply to CAT Mini). | Start: Double-press the tracker's power button quickly. Manual stop: Press the power button once to turn the light off. | Same unresolved automatic light duration conflict between the two Tractive articles; use the single-press manual stop when finished. |
| Weenect XS: Ringing & Vibration (Weenect XS guide, Dec 2023) | Named Weenect XS tracker; requires active connection (unavailable offline or in airplane mode). | Select the XS in the app and tap the ringtone/whistle or vibrating-phone icon on the right side of the screen. | Article does not specify a universal manual-stop gesture or duration list on that page. |
| Weenect: Ringing/Buzzer vs. Flashlight duration menus (Weenect feature guide) | Requires connection and good network coverage; page does not list which specific Weenect models support each menu. | Select from the in-app duration menu where supported (no universal manual-stop gesture stated). | Keep units separate: • Ringing / buzzer: 1, 2, 3, 5, 10, or 30 seconds. • Steady / blinking light: 1, 2, 5, 10, or 30 minutes. |
Identify the device and the feature before pressing anything
If your account manages more than one tracker, check the selected pet profile and hardware model before tapping a command. Keep three observations distinct in your notes: (1) tapping a light or sound icon on your phone screen, (2) receiving an app notification, and (3) physically seeing the LED light up or hearing the buzzer on the collar. A highlighted button on your phone does not prove the tracker on your pet's collar received the signal.
Use Tractive's app controls and documented stop routes
Tractive's combined Light and Sound guide gives this three-step mobile app sequence:
- Open the Map screen and swipe up the bottom bar.
- Tap Light or Sound to activate the chosen feature.
- Tap the same Light or Sound button a second time to turn it off manually.
That guide also notes that pressing the power button on the tracker itself stops an active light or sound, that sound volume is fixed, and that Sound automatically turns off after 5 minutes.
Meanwhile, Tractive's dedicated tracker light article specifies a physical button shortcut that applies only to DOG 6, DOG 6 XL, DOG 6 XL Adventure, and CAT 6 Mini: quickly double-press the power button to turn the light on, and press the power button once to turn it off. Never apply that double-press button rule to a CAT Mini or an older generation.
For app-triggered light control, the tracker must be online and outside any Power Saving Zone—which explains why the Light icon appears grayed out when the tracker is resting inside a home Wi-Fi power-saving area.
Note the unresolved timing discrepancy across Tractive's own help center: the combined Light & Sound article states that the light stays on for 15 minutes before turning off automatically, whereas the dedicated Light article states that it turns off automatically after a couple or a few minutes. Rather than guessing which timer applies to your firmware, use the manual stop control when you finish looking.
Keep Weenect's named XS route separate from its duration menus
Weenect's Weenect XS ringing and vibration guide (updated December 2023) directs owners to select the XS tracker in the app and tap the ringtone/whistle icon or the vibrating-phone icon on the right side of the map. Both controls require an active connection and cannot run when the tracker is offline or in airplane mode.
A separate Weenect Ringing, Buzzer and Flashlight guide lists selectable duration menus without naming which specific tracker models support them:
- Ringing or buzzer duration options: 1, 2, 3, 5, 10, or 30 seconds.
- Steady or blinking flashlight options: 1, 2, 5, 10, or 30 minutes.
Keep those seconds and minutes strictly separate, and do not assume every Weenect XS firmware screen shows the full flashlight menu or shares Tractive's manual stop buttons.
Record the command, observation, and stopping state separately
When checking or using light and sound controls, log four details: (1) exact tracker brand and model (e.g., Tractive DOG 6 vs. CAT Mini vs. Weenect XS), (2) whether the tracker was online or in a Power Saving Zone, (3) which command and duration you tapped, and (4) whether you physically saw the light or heard the tone and how it stopped.
