To change a pet camera's status indicator, find the Status LED or indicator-light control documented for your exact camera and software. Keep the selected preference separate from what the physical light does afterward. A dark indicator is not, by itself, evidence that a camera is powered off, has stopped recording or provides privacy.

Start by identifying which light you mean. A status indicator, infrared emitter and spotlight are different controls. Do not choose a night-vision setting merely because you want to change a small visible indicator.

Identify the camera and the intended control

Note the actual model, hardware version where provided and the software you are using. Look for that model's current instructions and their supported-device list. A menu name from another camera or a photograph of an unlit housing does not establish the option available on yours.

Write down the current indicator preference before changing it. If the camera has not completed its initial setup, resolve that separate task with the matching instructions first. This guide concerns a supported light preference, not another pairing, network-repair or reset procedure.

Use one matching route, rather than combining menus

Tapo's indicator FAQ directs the owner from the camera's live view to device settings, then to the Status LED toggle. The current page was updated September 29, 2026. Its short instruction supplies no explicit model list or additional icon names, so check that the control exists for your identified camera rather than extending this wording to every Tapo device.

Reolink's Status LED guide has a specific applicability list: battery-powered Wi-Fi cameras (excluding the Argus 4 Series), plus Go PT S Lite and the Lumus, E1, Elite, TrackFlex and OMVI series. For supported devices in the App, its text places the control under Settings, Light, then Status LED, where it can be enabled or disabled.

The same guide gives a different Client route through Device and Light. Web and NVR instructions have their own conditions, including no Web configuration for battery-powered cameras or Home Hub series. Keep those interface restrictions attached to their section; they are not a reason to substitute Web buttons into the App.

Wyze's status-light article specifically discusses Cam Pan v2. In its light-off section, it says that when the voice prompt plays and setup is successful, Camera Settings, Advanced Settings and Toggle Camera Status Light Off/On provide the route to turn the LED on. Do not generalize that condition to every Wyze generation.

The article also says solid blue usually indicates successful setup while discussing cases where setup has failed despite that light. Color alone therefore does not settle the connection question. This guide does not adopt its separate power-cycle, router or new-device troubleshooting.

Describe the result without inferring another state

After using the supported control, make a short record of the model and interface, the option selected and the light you actually observe. “Status LED set to off; indicator still visible” describes an unresolved result. It does not identify its cause or authorize a reset.

Include the relevant model and software information without sharing credentials. Do not cover openings, dismantle the camera or improvise another control to make the indicator disappear.

For image mode and infrared illumination, use the separate night-vision guide. For recorded sound, use the audio-recording guide. Neither a selected indicator preference nor an unlit housing establishes what those other functions are doing.

Browse pet cameras for equipment questions, not proof of a particular control or operating state. The edited exterior illustration does not show a settings change, network test, recording result or verified model.
