Sharing a feeder gives another person a way to affect meals, so decide what access you intend to grant before sending a link. This guide follows PetSafe's FreshFeed Refrigerated Pet Feeder in the Pet Companion app. It does not describe every connected feeder or the physical registration of a pet's microchip.
Use the exact product and app instructions, then keep the invitation, the person's actual access and any later removal separate in your records.
Grant and remove the documented FreshFeed access
PetSafe's sharing guide requires the recipient to have Pet Companion and their own account first. Shared users have full feeder access, including adding or editing schedules, but cannot share it onward.
Send the invitation
- Select the intended feeder in the app's product list.
- Open its settings icon, then Share Device.
- Choose text, email or a copied sharing link. More offers options depending on the phone and its apps.
For Copy Sharing Link, select how many times it can be used before expiry, up to 20 uses. That is a use count, not a 20-person limit or a 20-day access period.
End one person's access
Return to that feeder's settings, Share Device, then Sharing Management. Select the intended user. Choose Unshare for immediate removal, or Validity Period, Valid Within, an end date and Done for removal after that date. Repeat for other users as needed.
Keep sending separate from acceptance
the instructions do not show a recipient's exact acceptance screen or button. Do not substitute a similarly named control from another app.
Record what each person actually sees. A sent link alone does not establish that access was accepted. If the intended feeder or user is missing, keep the handover unresolved. Do not report a completed account test when you have only sent instructions.
Agree who will use app Feed
PetSafe's extra-meals guidance says app Feed neither replaces nor skips a scheduled meal. The schedule still runs. It also directs owners to check Meal History for extra app meals from shared users and to remove a user through the sharing controls when needed.
Before handing over control, agree who may change a plan and who will communicate any manual feeding action. Do not press Feed merely to check whether sharing works. Keep an app history entry separate from an observation that food was released or a pet ate; those are different questions.
Use user removal rather than a reset shortcut
The FreshFeed settings guide distinguishes temporary or permanent sharing from Factory Reset. Reset removes the feeder from the app and restores factory settings, requiring setup again. It is not the documented route for removing one shared user.
Close the handover with an accurate record
Keep a private note of the feeder, the person, the access you intended and whether it is ongoing or ends on a date. After requesting removal, record the selected user, the action and the state the app actually shows. Do not turn an attempted change into a claim that a former user has been tested, every old link invalidated or all historical data erased.
For ordinary meal entry, use the separate meal and portion programming guide. The automatic feeders category can help with equipment browsing; confirm sharing features against the exact product.
