The best cat litter liners for your shortlist are the ones whose documented fit, fixing method and handling requirements match your actual box. Start with those requirements before comparing thickness or a “fits most” claim. This guide compares three named liner descriptions; Pawlivy has not tested their fit, tear resistance or leakage.
Identify the box before choosing a liner
Record the box’s exact model, entry style, interior shape, wall height and any rim, guard or retaining parts. Check whether its instructions permit a liner at all and whether they identify a specific replacement. A liner that can be pulled over an opening is not necessarily the correct shape for the floor and corners below it.
Keep different measurements labeled. The box’s interior length, width and depth answer different questions from a liner’s stated dimensions. Our whole-box comparison guide also separates the pan, liner, guard and cover as individual components.
Compare the constructions on the same terms
| Named liner | What the maker identifies | Important purchase question |
|---|---|---|
| Jonny Cat liners | Low-density polyethylene, stated 2 MIL thickness and a drawstring tightened around the rim after fitting. | Is your box outside the maker’s excluded designs? |
| Van Ness DL5 Jumbo liners | Five drawstring liners, stated 36 × 18 inches each, made from 2-mil plastic. | What do those nominal dimensions mean for your box’s shape and height? |
| Modkat Type A liners | A three-pack for the Modkat Litter Box, with tarpaulin construction and an integrated tension band. | Does your exact box call for Type A? |
Jonny Cat: read the exclusions as carefully as the fit claim
The Jonny Cat FAQ says to take extra care with round boxes. It excludes specialty self-cleaning, top-entry and unusually tall boxes, and says not to use the liners where there is a risk of damage to the box. Those limitations matter more than assuming that standard, large or jumbo means every box in that category.
A drawstring needs a suitable rim and the correct fitting instructions. Do not invent an extra clip, knot or attachment to compensate for an unresolved mismatch. If the box type is excluded, a larger pack does not change that restriction.
Van Ness DL5: a stated liner size is not a box-fit formula
The Van Ness DL5 page gives 36 × 18-inch dimensions and five liners per pack. It identifies plastic without specifying the resin. Do not borrow Jonny Cat’s polyethylene description for this product.
Compare the actual box shape with the maker’s fitting guidance before treating the dimensions as sufficient. Similar thickness labels do not demonstrate equal strength, and neither a drawstring nor “jumbo” verifies protection against tearing or leaks.
Modkat Type A: match the replacement type, not just the brand
The Type A product page specifies the original Modkat Litter Box and lists 15.8 × 15.8 × 10.5H inches, alongside 40 × 40 × 27H centimetres. Its integrated tension band belongs to that fitted design. Do not substitute Type A for a Tray Type G, Flip or XL liner merely because all carry the Modkat name.
Modkat describes Type A as reusable with regular cleaning. That is a care commitment to consider, rather than a guarantee of how long your liner will last.
Choose the handling routine as well as the fit
Decide whether you can follow the exact liner’s removal, disposal or permitted reuse instructions. A thickness statement does not establish washability. A reusable label does not authorize every cleaner or appliance, and a litter’s disposal directions do not automatically apply to its liner.
Keep liner handling separate from maintenance of the box itself. Removing a liner does not record a completed tray wash. The litter-box cleaning guide distinguishes those tasks without turning this purchase comparison into a universal cleaning or disposal recipe.
Finish with a matching record
For each candidate, note the box model, permitted liner type, dimension definitions, fixing method, stated material, pack count and applicable care or disposal instructions. Leave missing details open and seek clarification before buying. Choose among documented matches rather than ranking unverified tear-proof, odor-control or lifespan claims.
Browse litter-box liners and filters for ordinary shopping, then check the specific listing. The category does not establish that these named products are stocked or compatible with your box.
