Choose a dog raincoat by the areas it covers, the position of its leash opening and its adjustment points. A hood, lining and harness portal have separate functions. Decide on the layout before choosing a size.

Align the opening with your harness

Locate the attachment on your dog's walking equipment and compare it with the coat's portal. The portal is a route for the leash, not a leash attachment. Ruffwear describes the Sun Shower portal as working over most harnesses, so its position still matters for the harness being used.

Measure chest and back separately

Use your dog's body measurements with the chart for the selected Pawlivy option. Keep body girth and finished garment dimensions separate. During a trial fitting, look at the neck, chest, leg openings and underside while your dog moves normally.

Choose a care routine you can maintain

Sun Shower's instructions call for a cold gentle wash with mild detergent and hanging to dry. Halifax specifies hand washing. Mudventure's restrictions include no tumble drying or fabric softener. Use the label supplied with the selected garment for its full washing routine.
