To train a cat to use an exercise wheel, separate approaching, stepping on and learning its movement.
Check instructions
Match the maker and model before practice. Finish its setup and empty checks separately using the assembly guide.
Follow your maker
One Fast Cat invites approach with a toy or treat. Let investigation be enough if your cat stays back. Next, invite a voluntary step inside while holding its wheel still. Its guides then describe a slow hand-controlled roll as the cat adjusts its footing. After manageable walking, let the cat control its pace. These are that maker's instructions; never place or force your cat onto the wheel.
ZiggyDoo's Ferris guide instead praises touching and small voluntary steps before faster movement. It requires movement of the occupied wheel to come from the cat, without your hands turning it. Follow that Ferris method rather than combining it with One Fast Cat's hand-controlled roll. Walking is an opportunity; running is not a required result.
Pause and reassess
If your cat retreats or leaves, finish or return to easier investigation; do not block withdrawal.
Tell the maker which stage your cat chose or left when asking what to try next. Keep other indoor enrichment choices available.
