When planning how to get a cat used to a microchip feeder, start with voluntary bowl use.
Before training
Use this example only with the standard, enrolled non-Connect SureFeed.
Ordinary feeding remains available; never force your cat through the hoop.
Cats Protection recommends separate feeding places. A sudden change in normal eating or drinking warrants a call to your vet, rather than another training attempt.
Bowl first
Introduce SureFeed's bowl without the feeder. Bring the feeder nearby; move the bowl onto its mat and into the open feeder, waiting for comfortable voluntary use at each step.
Add lid movement
Begin with the lid closed and press Fn once: it opens and orange flashes. Keep this stationary stage until comfortable. Further Fn presses add three increasing partial-closure stages. Finish each comfortably before advancing; a final press enters daily mode.
Pause or finish
A five-second Fn hold exits training, not one-stage retreat.
If movement causes avoidance, pause; repeat only as instructed or ask support. Early open training does not exclude other cats.
Use the separate identity-enrollment guide for setup and the feeder-mechanism guide to distinguish access from dispensing.
